SPEAK OF THOSE THINGS THAT DO NOT EXIST AS IF THEY DID

 

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV)

 

When dealing with a stronghold in our mind, or an addiction, or a bondage, it is important not to continue to speak defeat. We must realize how much our words have power. Like Proverbs 18:21 says, we must be satisfied to reap according to what we speak—we will eat our words, whether for good or for evil. Let us therefore choose to speak faith and life regardless of how we feel presently. Let us speak faith and trust that our feelings will eventually catch-up.

 

Once we made our mind up that with God’s help, we want to be free, we must begin to speak life over ourselves, over our situation, over our life and over our future. Faith is in our mouth, “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.” (See Romans 10:8-10 NKJV). Making Scriptural declarations out loud is a powerful tool. Just a few months ago, I experienced a setback. One of the powerful tools the Lord used to help me back on my feet was faith-filled declarations. Standing on the promises of God’s Word, I began to speak out loud and with conviction the things that I wanted to see manifested in my life; in my relationship with God, in my future, about who I have chosen to be; about who I am in Christ. Before I stated Scriptural truths and made biblical confessions out loud, I wrestled to see my thoughts and feelings align with my decision to live a life of freedom in the area I was battling with. I struggled to align my thoughts and feelings with what I wanted and believed. Once I started to confess out loud Scriptural promises that I chose and wanted for myself, and as I sought to speak of those things that were not manifested yet in my thoughts and feelings as though they were, it brought a quick turnaround and peace returned astonishingly fast.

“God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.” (Romans 4:17b NKJV)

 

While I spoke out loud what I wanted to see manifested in my life, I purposely aligned and re-aligned my emotions and thoughts with the truth of God’s Word associated with the declarations that I made. I ensured to set aside some time daily to make confessions on purpose. True, it requires a little time and effort on our part, but I can testify that it is truly empowering and fruitful.

 

What we believe in our heart becomes our reality. So we want to guard our heart with all diligence, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 NKJV) We can choose what we believe. We can decide on the life we want. Isn’t this glorious news! The devil has no right to force us to a lifestyle if we don’t want it. If we desire to be loyal to God and live a life of surrender, let us speak as one who is submitted to God in love. Let us speak what we want to see happen in our lives from the perspective that it is already happening; it is already ours, already manifested in our lives based on the promises of God’s Word. Let us have “faith sessions”, building our faith up in these areas by the things we say. This will help bring healing to our belief system, our will, our mind and our emotions, and it will help protect our heart from lies.

 

I encourage you to make faith-filled declarations about yourself, about your life and your future, standing on the promises you find in God’s Word concerning such declarations. It may feel weird at first, but keep doing it, you will get used to it. Do this regularly, a few times a week or more and you will begin to see changes over your situation.

 

If you have an addiction, begin to speak out loud standing on God’s promises to you that “he whom the Son sets free is free indeed” (see John 8:36). You have self-control (see Galatians 5:23). You are led by the Spirit of God, therefore you do not fulfill the lust of the flesh (see Galatians 5:16).

Say, for example:

·         I enjoy such peace and freedom in the Holy Spirit!

·         I quit doing “mention the addiction” a long time ago. It’s like I can barely remember that person anymore.

·         It’s amazing how I have no desire for “mention the addiction” anymore.

·         I hate this thing “the addiction”, actually. I have grown to hate it and to love freedom more than it “the addiction”.

·         I am now helping others coming out of this struggle I once had.

·         Etc…

·         Ask the Lord to lead you as to what kind of faith-filled declarations will help you.

 

Speak these things while you are indulging in the addiction. Speak these things while on your way to doing the addictive behavior. Speak these things after you did it. Speak these things in between. Speak faith-filled declarations that align with the life you have chosen for yourself and want to experience, “and let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9 NKJV)

 

Make sure to welcome the Lord and to invite Him in your situation. Ask Him to help you, to guide you. Never do anything without Him and without supporting your confessions and declarations with His Word. Purposely align your view of your future and of your life with what you want, supported by the Word. Submit your view, your emotions and your beliefs with such Scriptural perspective. As you keep doing that, eventually your mind, your will and your emotions will transform into that person you spoke into existence.

 

Be encouraged, there is hope! There is a way out.

God Wants Your Heart

God wants your heart; do you want Him? At the end of the day, that’s what matters. Why do you do what you do? As a born again believer, you were given a new heart, a new nature. You were given a new ‘want to’. Allow your new ‘want to’ to govern what you do under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Find underneath the pressure to perform righteousness what you really want. Pause before acting and ask God to help you be honest with Him and with yourself. Underneath the feelings of guilt and the religious pressure of duty is a new ‘want to’. And the new ‘want to’ buried underneath in there, is what God is after. He is not impressed by what we do under the pressures of guilt and condemnation. He knows our heart and what motivates us. If we will remove the ‘have to’ we may realize that we ‘want to’, actually. The latter is what needs to be our motivation. And the latter will be a sweet smelling offering to God offered in faith and love. Understand that God has given you everything you need for life and godliness, “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.”

Let your new ‘want to’ be the motivation of your heart. Trust the finished work of Christ; that you have truly been made new through your faith in Jesus. When our heart is right—trusting Christ, increasing in our love for God and for others and hungering for righteousness, there is no place for condemnation and guilt to rule us. And this is made possible because we first received the free gift of righteousness through faith in Jesus (see Romans 5:17). We have been made righteous at the core through faith in the finished work of Christ. Hebrews 10:14 (NKJV) says this, “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

Saving faith in Jesus Christ our Savior is what makes us righteous. Not only what we do is righteous, but we are righteous. Faith is a matter of the heart. Faith is in the heart and originates with our heart. Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV) says it this way, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” It is a righteousness which is of faith. Our new nature within yearns for righteous living, righteous actions, righteous reactions, and righteous desires. We have been made the righteousness of God in Christ (see 2 Cor. 5:21). Let us allow ourselves to believe that and let us see the difference between what we once considered righteous while under law and what is really righteous now under grace. The former will appear superficial, shallow and dull, the second rich, full and fruitful. To believe that we are righteous through faith in Christ is to obey the Gospel. Not to believe that is to disobey the Gospel; “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” (Galatians 3:1 NKJV) You need to read the book of Galatians to see that they had gone back to trying to reach perfection through dependence upon the flesh instead of through dependence upon the Holy Spirit by faith. (Also see Galatians 3:3).

God is not interested in what we do for Him out of guilt, He wants our heart! Do we want Him or not? Let us let our graced will rise up and actively choose Him—“as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” (see Joshua 24:15). Do we trust Him or not? Do we love Him or not? Do we want to live for Him or not? Do we want to serve Him or not? He isn’t interested in anything we have to offer Him if it is not coming from a heart of faith in Him and love for Him. He isn’t interested in us trying to perform in order to try to earn His approval, what He is interested in is our very heart. What do we really desire? What truly motivates us? Do we want Him? Everything flowing from such ‘want to’ will be a sweet fragrance to Him. God loves a cheerful giver (see 2 Cor. 9:7) and something tells me that this is not only true about money offering, but about everything that we offer to God in faith.

Finally, let us be reinvigorated by the fact that even if we may struggle to be willing at times, we can ask God to help our will and to convince us as to cause us to become willing; “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” (Phil. 2:13 NKJV)

What God wants is our heart; He wants our love. Everything else will naturally flow from there.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”―Ezekiel 36:26-27 NKJV

“But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.”―Numbers 14:24 NKJV
